Brilliant Healthy Smiles (BHS) is a brand-new dental clinic founded by successful businessman and CEO Dr. Fraz Ali. With support from us at Impact Hub Yorkshire, LABD, and our social investment partner, the Key Fund, BHS has secured a £225,000 blended finance package which included a loan and a grant. 

An innovative approach to dental care 

Brilliant Healthy Smiles is the first independent social enterprise dental clinic of its kind in Bradford. The clinic will operate outside of the NHS but will mirror NHS pricing structures to help make dental care affordable and accessible to people who need it most. 

Its services have been designed with a community first approach rather than profit. It’s subscription model also means that patients can stay registered and maintain consistent access to treatment. 

Powered by ethical finance principles 

The team at Impact Hub Yorkshire have worked with Dr Fraz to secure a blend of both grant and repayable finance which has been structured to be Shariah Compliant. The funding package consists of the following: 

• Unsecured loan of £205,000 from social investor the Key Fund on a 10-year repayment term 

• £20,000 grant from the Bradford Impact Fund  
•  £57,175 personal investment from Dr. Fraz Instead of paying interest, the borrower pays a fee upfront. In this case, the fee was 3.5%, amounting to £7,175. This structure aligns with Shariah principles, which prohibit the payment or receipt of interest.  

The social investment of £225,000 will specifically be used as a contribution to make the new dentist practice building fit for purpose and will be given in three instalments.  

This investment and the tailored support from Impact Hub Yorkshire and the LABD programme have been transformational for Brilliant Healthy Smiles. It has enabled Dr. Fraz to create a transparent and trustworthy brand, address social needs, strengthen communities and put in place the structures needed to deliver affordable, community-focused dental care at scale to support those who need it most.
